C200 - Entering the Standing Stones
One of the only complete, surviving cinematics from Gauntlet's story mode and Josh Sawyer's original
Seven Sorrows storyline. Particles are rough and
thrown together for E3, but would have been revised had story-mode not been cut. Cameras were done via the
nightmare that is RenderWare Studio's Sequencer. Imagine shooting a film blind-folded and you've got
an idea of working in Sequencer. Real-time animations are not displayed so you must approximate the
location of moving characters over many, many iterations. It also uses only linear interpolation and
does not interpolate smoothly between short keyframes, thus camera movement had to be kept to a minimum
to avoid accentuating the hard, robotic movement it was only capable of. Our Maya-cam exporter solved
this problem post-E3 (my great thanks to the programmers!)
This cinematic introduces the Flesh-Eater's leader, Veledia and their struggle against the Aesatae and
Morbus, as she and her soldiers await Madoc of the Gorau and Idain (The Wizard and Elf, respectively).
Madoc, upon finding the stone that his captured daughter was tied to, raped then killed (Yes, this title
used to be M-rated) goes into a rage against the Imperials soldiers that have invaded his people's lands...
